The Alberta Innovates launch event, featuring Phytola and Livestock Gentec, took place on January 25, 2011, in the Agriculture/Forestry Centre at the University of Alberta.
Several government and university representatives spoke and Minister of Alberta Agriculture and Rural Development Jack Hayden summed up the importance of these Alberta Innovates Centres. “Research and innovation are vital to the future and sustainability of Albertaʼs agriculture industry,” said Minister Jack Hayden. “The world-class research being done at Phytola and Livestock Gentec will provide additional opportunities for success for Albertaʼs oilseed producers and our livestock and meat industry.”
Alberta Innovates Bio Solutions has strategically invested in these initiatives expecting the outcomes to lead to expanded market opportunities for Alberta farmers and ranchers. This goal was captured by Carl Amrhein, Provost and Vice- President (Academic) at the University of Alberta in his speech saying, “The research being conducted at both centres is leading-edge and making significant contributions to the Alberta Innovates Phytola Centre issues of food security, food quality, and value-added opportunities for crop and livestock producers.”
Phytola appreciates the foresight and strategic investment from Alberta Innovates Bio Solutions that encourages the broadening of value-added market opportunities for Alberta producers.
